January – February 25 Newsletter

Dear Members and Friends of LCHGS,
As 2024 closes and we move forward into 2025 we
want to thank all the volunteers and board members for
their expertise in their work at 113 S. Hennepin Ave.
Every one of the staff has a specialty that we call on to
accomplish preserving history, research requests, and
office duties.
The Lee County Historical and Genealogical Society
is a very important part of the history and genealogy of
the residents past and present of Lee County.
If you walked into the library, the staff could research
a Lee County family by using our records of births,
deaths, and cemeteries. They have the use of Dixon,
Amboy, Ashton, and Franklin Grove Newspapers going
back into the 1800s. The high School yearbooks for the
towns in Lee County and information about all the
country schools are also available. We have military
history for all the wars and have histories of the churches
in Lee County.
The Historical books that we have are amazing. They
were written in the 1800s and 1900s and pretty much tell
the story of Lee County back to when the Native
Americans lived here. We also have in our library many
genealogies that people have completed and donated back

November – December 2024 Newsletter

Hello Members and Friends,
The LCHGS board members have been busy the last two months with their regular duties plus preparing for the LCHGS Annual Meeting on Tuesday, November 12th at 7 p.m.
Last August, the board was looking into an additional source of revenue. An opportunity had been presented to them to sell the Petunia Festival Buttons. The board decided this project could only be accomplished with additional member assistance in selling the buttons before and during the Fourth of July festival. It would bring in an additional amount of revenue plus assist the Petunia Festival Committee. As mentioned in your email, this will be voted on at the Annual Meeting and based on the number of committed volunteers will determine if we are able to spearhead it.
The Board has also reviewed our Bylaws. All changes will be presented and voted on at this Annual Meeting.

Camp-Dement

Hello Members and Friends,
We just may have put winter behind us. I’ve been
anxious to get a garden planted. The seed packages
are on the counter in the kitchen, and this weekend I’ll
be digging, planting, watering, and putting up a
rabbit-proof fence. Well, there is no way to really
rabbit-proof anything. Last year, our well fenced in
garden just turned into a nursery for mother rabbit to
keep track of her little ones.
